Victoria Bond’s New CD

Dear Friends,
I’m excited to share my new CD with you. There are five new works performed by the following amazing soloists: harpsichordist Kenneth Cooper, violinists Renee Jolles and Sheila Reinhold, harpist Susan Jolles, violist Daniel Panner, clarinetists John Bruce Yeh and Teresa Reilly, erhu player Wang Guowei and pipa player Yang Wei. The compositions explore a wide range of subjects, including the humorous harpsichord suite, Peculiar Plants, with brief poems by Kenneth Cooper and me preceding each movement; Sacred Sisters, on three biblical women, Bridges, for two clarinets and Chinese erhu and pipa, Jasmine Flower, a set of variations on a Chinese folksong, and Woven inspired by the weavings of Jack Lenor Larsen.

July 27 Performance of Bond Composition in Millennium Park

November 19 - 28 Victoria Bond delivers pre-concert talks for the New York Philharmonic

Bond will discuss Liszt "Les Preludes", Elgar "In the South," and Prokofiev "Romeo and Juliet," on Nov 19 at 6:30pm and Nov 24 at 7:00pm. On Nov 27 and Nov 28 at 7:00pm she will discuss Beethoven Symphony #3 and Honegger Symphony #2. On Nov 28 at 1:00pm she will discuss Schoenberg's Verklarte Nacht and the Beethoven Symphony #3. All pre-concert talks take place in the Helen Hull Room at Avery Fischer Hall, Lincoln Center, NY.

September 30 Piano Concerto "Ancient Keys" in Nebraska
Paul Barnes is the piano soloist in Victoria Bond's concerto "Ancient Keys." The performance takes place at Kimball Recital Hall at the University of Nebraska Lincoln School of Music. The conductor is Tobin Stewart.

New Works

"Peculiar Plants" for harpsichord or piano will soon be available from C.F. Peters
"How Brer Raccoon Outsmarted the Frogs" is now available from Theodore Presser
"Samba" for flute and piano is now available from Subito Music
"Batucada" for solo flute is available from Protone Music.
Clara Schumann is the subject of a new opera with music by Victoria Bond and libretto by Barbara Zinn Krieger. Bond has been awarded a stipendium from the Brahmshausgesellschaft and will spend the month of May 2010 in Baden-Baden Germany working on the music. Scenes from the opera will be presented on Cutting Edge Concerts New Music Festival 2010 in Symphony Space.
"The Indispensable Man" with script by Dr. Myles Lee will be scored for narrator and band. Lee has crafted a dramatic and moving portrait of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's using the President's own words. Bond will be underscoring this text with music inspired by the big-band era.
"The Page Turner" is a humerous work that Bond is writing for pianist Kathleen Supove. The work will be premiered during the 2009-2010 season.
Storyteller Bill Gordh and Bond are teaming up to write a treatment of one of the Brer Rabbit stories scored for banjo and small ensemble.
