Victoria Bond's Cutting Edge Concerts New Music Festival celebrates its 21st Season with four programs on Mondays in April. Highlights include:
  • Big Jim & The Small-time Investors - the world premiere staged production and last major work by Eric Salzman, who passed away in November 2017; Big Jim is about an L.A. con man who claims to have invented a virtual reality machine that permits the viewer to imagine his or her wildest fantasies. The title role is performed by Scott Joiner. (April 9)

  • The acclaimed string quintet Sybarite5 is joined by master shakuhachi player and composer James Noryaku Schlefer. The program features the world premieres of The Voice of Water for String Quintet by Victoria Bond and a sextet by Schlefer, both written especially for Sybarite5. They will also play a piece by Pulitzer-prize winner Paul Moravec. This program is presented in collaboration with Kyo-Shin-An Arts. (April 16)

  • "...go, listen, and be changed" (Boston Globe) as Boston-based Hub New Music plays the New York premiere of Robert Honstein's Soul House, a new arrangement of Victoria Bond's Bridges, and Thread by Evan Ziporyn. (April 23)
  • Cygnus Ensemble - The program includes a world premiere by Pulitzer Prize-winner David Del Tredici. Also on the program: a world premiere by Morris Rosenzweig and works by Richard Festinger and 2009 Guggenheim fellow Anna Weesner. (April 30)
Inspired by Pierre Boulez's series, "Perspective Encounters", the composer and conductor Victoria Bond founded Cutting Edge Concerts in 1998. Over the course of 20 years, Cutting Edge Concerts has presented 304 new works by 191 composers on 65 concerts. Each program highlights the music of living composers, all of whom attend the concert. Along with performances by world-class ensembles and soloists, each program features on-stage discussions between host Victoria Bond and the composers. CEC has been called "a full-throttle commitment to contemporary music" by Chamber Music America.
Cutting Edge Concerts New Music Festival concerts are on Mondays, April 9, 16, 23, and 30, 2018 at 7:30 pm at Leonard Nimoy Thalia at Peter Norton Symphony Space (2537 Broadway at 95th Street in Manhattan). Tickets are $20 in advance ($30 day of show) and are available online.
